Formula and assumptions

How the calculator works

Total Cost = Labor Hours × Loaded Labor Rate + Materials + Subs + Equipment + Travel + Allocated Overhead Price = Total Cost / (1 - Target Margin) Minimum Job Price = higher of Required Price or Current Minimum Service Charge Profit = Minimum Job Price - Total Cost

Use a loaded labor rate that includes wages, taxes, benefits, and non-billable time when possible.

Common mistakes this catches

  • Letting minimum service calls cover labor but not overhead.
  • Ignoring drive time, setup, cleanup, and admin time.
  • Using wage rate instead of loaded labor rate.
  • Forgetting that a target margin is measured against price, not cost.
